The digital illustration was created by Tang Yau Hoong from Malaysia. It was designed for an article in the magazine Science News called "Pulling out of Addiction." This digital illustration stood out to me for its clever way of using negative space to create an object. I also enjoyed the bright vivid colors on the dark black background. This illustration did a very good job with portraying the concept of the article by making it look like a man is climbing out of a bottle. The colors helped show the concept of the different emotional levels a person may have when trying to climb out of there addiction. The way the bottle was placed in a tilted upside-down position puts emphasis on the concept of progression that the climber has not only made but what is required to reach his goal. The artist also added texture and ruggedness at the end of the bottle to make the bottle blend into a cliff side. In whole the piece is very simple and very brilliant in its concept. It may not have a lot of detail, but it does not need it to communicate the message it is trying to send.
